A Quest For a Loving Home

Many of us share a dream of coupling up and forming a loving home. But for a lot, it also remains rather unattainable. A client of mine wanted to know if she would finally find a partner willing to settle down and spend the rest of his life with her. All previous relationships have ended without even an attempt to share a home and a living.

As this is a typical predictive question, normally a 3-card spread would suffice. But since the client wanted a broader insight into the matter, I decided to cast a carré of 9 cards, using a Lenormand deck.

A Dutch-language Lenormand deck, originally published by Cartamundi, reissued by Koppenhol Uitgeverij.

The first thing that strikes here as obvious is that both she and a potential partner’s significators did not appear in the spread. Her significator decided to pop up at the bottom of the deck, which already tells us a lot, but I will get back to it later.

Looking at the spread step by step, we see the client’s dream reflected right where we expect it to be - in the “head” row. A dream (Moon) to quickly obtain a loving man and form a stable home (Clover + House). But the matter at hand is that deadly gripping for the idea of a man she should be with is what keeps her stuck (Coffin + Fish), after which she lets go, only to continue her lone long quest (Ship). To be more precise, she holds on to the idea of settling down with a financially successful man whose qualities are all “according to the Book” (Fish with the K♦️ inset, modified by the Book). What she certainly has going for her is her communication skills and an extroverted disposition in a social context (Birds, Book, Garden), yet it still does not result in the materialization of her goal. Perhaps there is something to be said for opening yourself way too much.

Looking at the ‘past’ column we see that this dream has been buried several times and that communication issues might have something to do with it (Moon, Coffin, Birds). Yet she is still on the quest to get lucky with a “good on paper” guy (Clover, Fish, Book). The future column shows us that there will come a chance for a stable love story, but the road is long and she is in danger of repeating her old patterns. The fact that she is at the bottom of the deck tells us that it is up to her to reevaluate her situation. If we could indicate favorable circumstances for meeting someone worthwhile, it would be away from home, and in a public place (House, Ship, Garden). Yet communicating your plans and desires right upfront may be a sure way to kill any communication attempt (House, Fish, Birds modified by Coffin). But if she reevaluates her approach, and looks further away from home, things might start to look up (Moon, Fish, Garden modified by Ship). However, with two spades insets putting a period to this predictive carré, we need to advise the client to take a deep breath, as it may take a while.
