The Year’s Wheel: A Method for Yearly Forecasts

As I’ve mentioned many times before, general readings are not my preferred approach when it comes to card readings. While there’s undeniable enjoyment in uncovering the mysteries within the cards—and in coaxing insights from a hesitant querent—precision remains unmatched when a well-defined question is placed on the table, providing the essential context we need.

That said, I occasionally make exceptions, and yearly forecasts are one of those rare indulgences I bring out from my “fortunetelling attic” every December. Just as the Grand Tableau can be adapted for focused and purposeful inquiries, a 12-month forecast can also be tailored to a specific area of life. Alternatively, it can be used to highlight key challenges or opportunities that may arise each month in the year ahead.

In this article, I’ll share an example of a reading I performed for a client last year. He wanted to know what key events to watch for each month of 2024. For this type of forecast, I use Lenormand cards or a similar 36-card deck, as the structure naturally divides into groups of three.

‘Leipzig Lenormand’, or ‘Wahrsagen a la Lenormand’, by Verlag für die Frau (1982).

We begin by randomly drawing three cards for each month. These can be arranged in any pattern as long as the cards are grouped by month. For this reading, I arranged the monthly groups in a concentric clockwise circle.

Here’s how the reading unfolded, month by month:

January: Tree, Crossroads, Key
This month brings a significant decision related to health. With Crossroads in the center and Key following, it suggests the querent will uncover that their health issues stem from the nervous system and take steps to address them.

February: Snake, House, Coffin
Problems arise within the home. The Snake suggests issues involving power cables or pipes, which will need containment. As Coffin concludes the line, it indicates that these problems will ultimately be resolved.

March: Dog, Fox, Clover
A betrayal by a friend over something trivial. The Dog turns into the cunning Fox, all for a small gain (Clover). This suggests that someone posing as a friend will reveal their true nature. However, as Clover concludes the line, it implies that the friendship wasn’t particularly strong to begin with.

April: Sun, Ship, Garden
A long-awaited success (Sun) in a personal endeavor (Ship) through an expanded audience (Garden). The querent mentioned that their side hustle has been slower than expected. This spread suggests that April is when their work will finally gain public recognition.

May: Whip, Bear, Stork
Troubles with the querent’s mother, indicated by the Whip, Bear, and the Queen of Hearts inset in the Stork, prompt a temporary return to their place of birth.

June: Clouds, Birds, Mice
Miscommunications (Birds) lead to confusion (Clouds) and unexpected losses (Mice). This points to an ongoing issue with unclear communication causing tangible damage.

July: Cross, Tower, Man
Heavy workload (Cross + Tower) weighs on the querent (Man). July is the querent’s busiest month, and with their significator present, this indicates that work-related pressures will have a particularly strong impact.

August: Child, Scythe, Letter
A minor but unexpected “cut” (Child + Scythe) confirmed in writing (Letter). This may refer to an administrative issue that carries some financial consequences, though relatively small (Child).

September: Anchor, Bouquet, Lilies
A month of stability and contentment. Securing a pleasing (Bouquet) and long-awaited (Lilies) position at work brings satisfaction and fulfillment.

October: Moon, Mountain, Book
New challenges arise with the querent’s recent work responsibilities. The Moon shines a light on a significant obstacle (Mountain) tied to a project (Book). Given the querent’s role as a project manager, this suggests a professional hurdle that will require attention.

November: Heart, Star, Ring
This could be the month where the querent’s relationship (Heart) reaches new heights, possibly through marriage (Stars + Ring). The long-term stability of their partnership points to a deepening commitment.

December: Woman, Rider, Fish
The Querent’s partner (Woman) initiates a new business venture (Rider). This spread suggests the official kickoff of their partner’s private enterprise (Fish).

As we can see, general readings, while insightful, often lack the level of precision that a more focused inquiry can provide. Although this reading successfully highlights the key challenges and opportunities for each month, it remains broad in scope, leaving some details open to interpretation.

Had the querent chosen to focus solely on a specific area—such as the development of their private business or their romantic relationship—the cards could have been read with greater depth and clarity in that context. This approach would allow us to zero in on pivotal events, trends, or decisions within the chosen focus area, offering a more detailed and actionable prediction.

For instance, a business-focused reading might uncover the timing of critical opportunities, potential obstacles, and the best strategies for growth. Similarly, a reading centered on the querent’s love life could delve into moments of deepening connection, possible conflicts, or milestones in the relationship. By narrowing the scope, we gain a sharper lens to interpret the cards, turning a general forecast into a more tailored and precise guide.

In conclusion, a 12-month forecast offers a valuable overview of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, whether approached from a general perspective or focused on a specific area of life. While general readings can reveal key themes for each month, a tailored focus provides deeper precision and actionable insights, making this type of reading both flexible and versatile.
